5 Stereotypes Lead Singers Face ( How to Overcome Them)

5 Stereotypes Lead Singers Face ( How to Overcome Them) Suzy S. Do you sing with a band? If so, you may have been wrongfully accused of one of the many stereotypes lead singers face even if youre always on your best behavior! Here, St. Augustine, FL voice teacher  Heather L.  shares her tips for proving them wrong Im the lead singer uh, make that the only singer of two bands, an acoustic duo and a guitar/drum/piano/mandolin group. And as much fun as I have in each rehearsal, and as well as I get along with my bandmates, being a lead singer can be, well, weird. Im always learning that lead singers face a lot of expectations, pressures, and especially stereotypes. Im also always learning to push past them. Heres a list of five stereotypes that people who sing with a band can face, and how to rise above! 1. Lead singers are pushy princesses or princes. Were thought to be super bossy, directing the entire rehearsal, dictating precise tempos, and  rearranging set order again and again. And while theres nothing wrong with expressing your  opinion, just remember: its not what you say, its how you say it. Be sure to make your  voice heard in a respectful and calm way, or you might just find yourself looking for a new band! 2. Lead singers need to be the center of attention (all the time). While its not cool to be an ultimate diva, this stereotype actually makes sense. I mean, the lead  singer is the center of attention much of the time. Its not our fault. But a team is a team, and  its important to let every member show off individual talents. Let every member of your band  have a solo once in a while. That way, everyone shines on stage. 3. Lead singers know squat about music theory. Okay, so maybe, sometimes, we lead singers believe that we can get by on our good looks. But some lead singers not only have a decent amount of theory knowledge, but also  maintain serious theory geek status. If your bandmates josh you every time you forget the relative minor of C major, then just avoid talking about music. Or, better yet, ask  your voice teacher  to help you brush up on your theory  with a great curriculum book, like  Alfreds Essentials of Music Theory. Its easy, fun and youll be able to learn music in less time. 4. Lead singers are high maintenance. We need our particular teas and our certain bottles of water, and, oh, no thank you, we  dont drink any dairy beginning three weeks before a gig. Some of these high maintenance  behaviors are simply good vocal health habits, especially when you sing with a band. But remember, a professional never panics and always maintains a proper perspective. So dont flip out if you cant make a cup of Throat Coat before band practice! 5. Lead singers are ditzy airheads. Were always late to practice. Were always forgetting our music. Lead singers are not known for perfect attendance or organization skills. But we can all help change that! How? By being punctual, organized, and just, well, considerate of other band members. Overcoming the stereotypes that lead singers face is ultimately about seeing yourself as the best kind of leader the one who sees themselves in the trenches with everyone else.  Remember, your bandmates are the people who you make music with.  In the long run, overcoming the stereotypes that lead singers face will help you to become a better singer and a better band. Introverts Guide to being Social

Introvert Whisperer / Introverts Guide to being Social An Introvert’s Guide To Becoming More Social Many people consider introverted people shy, think they can’t socialize and make friends and are just destined to be alone. But a true introvert knows this: it has nothing to do with shyness. We’re just being selective when it comes to communicating with others, we just don’t find comfort in spending time with random people, we’re alright with solitude and enjoy being on our own, we have more thoughts and creative ideas in our heads and need the time to do something about them, which has little to do with communication and relationships. But the most important thing is that we can be just as popular and social as anyone else, we just prefer not to. However, we still live in a world that’s all about communication. Social media has taken that to a whole new level and we can hardly keep up with so many notifications coming in and so much happening on each platform. Society expects us to enjoy small chats, to be in the mood for going out at any moment of the day, to talk for hours when we have nothing else to do, or even when we do have work to do. But that’s not who we are. Fortunately, there are some things you can start doing so that people can forget you’re an introvert and see you as another social human being, while you keep having enough time for yourself and have all the peace and creativity you need to live the life of a true introvert. Here are some of them: 1. Don’t overthink everything. We, introverts, have the habit of wanting to dig deeper into a person’s soul, to form a real connection. For that we need a lot of time to trust him, and even more to open ourselves in front of him. But if you want to be more social, you’ll have to let go of that. Such deeper connections will happen eventually, but until then, just enjoy meeting new people, talk about stuff in life, let go of your expectations and just say what’s on your mind. When someone special is in front of you, you’ll understand that and will still have the chance to learn more about him and share with him the deeper layers of your soul. 2. Challenge yourself. Practice is crucial in every part of life if you want to get better at something, and social life is no exception. Get out there every day, and talk to one new person. Yes, it would feel uncomfortable most of the times, you’ll have no idea what to say, you’ll come up with excuses to avoid the conversation, or else. But you’ll have to fight the resistance and get out of your comfort zone. This is a skill and can be developed over time. Talk to one new person daily or every few days, and it will feel much easier the next time. You’ll get better at approaching strangers which can be quite helpful in other situations, you’ll know what works when making a small talk, will have the chance to experiment and find topics you enjoy and are more comfortable with. That’s a great way for you to level up in your personal and spiritual growth. Challenging yourself builds discipline, you develop skills, feel more confident and overcome the anxiety of socializing. 3. Prepare. Do your research on the psychology behind the communication between two people. Read about what’s going on in their mind when they first meet. Improve your conversation skills by watching speakers do what they do best. Also, make the most of social media. It’s a great way to approach people and still be in your own company, without being judged or expected to do anything. You can answer whenever you feel like, but it’s a good start as it’s as simple as saying ‘Hey!’ to a few friends, old or new. Another way to prepare is to talk to yourself in the mirror. This will let you see what you’re doing wrong in terms of body language. You can even play whole scenarios like meeting someone new, approaching someone from the opposite sex, telling a story in front of a group, or else. While doing that your mind will be getting used to you being the speaker, not the listener as it was until now. You’ll also feel more comfortable in your own skin and will act naturally in public. Make a step-by-step plan on what preparation you can include in your days, even if it’s for 5 minutes. If you’re serious about getting better at being social, you’ll need to be dedicated and stay consistent. LOI English Teachers Anne Fields

LOI English Teachers Anne Fields Learning English can be helpful at the professional level. That is why, nowadays, parents are willing to spend more to give children the opportunity to learn English. Because, when one is younger, the battle with learning accents, for example, can be won rather quickly. Many LOI English teachers have worked teaching children, like Anne Fields, who believes that children should start learning languages as soon as possible.Anne is currently living in Bogota, Colombia, from where she teaches English to people from around the world. She is from the United States and has lived in Argentina, Dominican Republic and Haiti. According to her, many of her students are from Brazil, Russia, Japan, Spain and the United States. I found it odd when she told me that she had students from the US, but then she explained that those who are learning English with her while living in the US are people from all over the world who moved there and now want to improve their English skills in a safe space, like an individual Skype class, where they are not judged by their mistakes. She studied French and Spanish in college, therefore she is familiar with the common struggles that any language student has to deal with. One of the things she believes is that is very important for those who are learning English is to have a patient teacher. Also, she believes that, even though she speaks other languages, her classes must given in English. Of course there are exceptions, like when the student is a beginner and does not understand a single word in English. However, Anne prefers to use hand motions, pictures, and examples to make her students stop translating their thoughts and start thinking in English. In addition to that, Anne does not like giving the correct answers without a proper explanation, for her explaining the situation is mandatory.Anne told me that some of her students ask her how much time they would need to learn English. That is obviously a tricky question, because people tend t o learn and dedicate themselves differently. So, Anne says to her students that it takes dedication, the more you practice, the faster you will learn. Besides that, Anne tells her students that the more English they experience in their daily lives, the better, so reading news and listening to music in English are some of her pieces of advice. She also tells them to change the language in their computer, smartphone and Facebook, so they start to have a daily contact with the language.

Are Border Fences Americas Only Hope at Halting Illegal Immigration

Are Border Fences America's Only Hope at Halting Illegal Immigration Despite spending over $4 billion on border fencing, 1,300 miles of the US-Mexico Border remains open to defectors. The majority of illegal immigrants entering the United States do so through the country’s southern border from Mexico, a boundary stretching almost 2,000 miles from California to Texas.   As of February 2012, the United States has constructed 651 miles of fencing along the US-Mexican border, covering just over 33% of the total length of the boundary. A U.S Government Accountability Office report in 2011 found the U.S Border Patrol had “operational control” of 873 miles of the US-Mexico border, but with over 50% of the international border unprotected by fencing and more than $4.5 billion spent constructing more fences in the past five years, are fences America’s best option at halting illegal immigration? Lower estimates derived from recent fencing projects implemented by U.S Border Control put the cost of one mile of fencing at roughly $16 million. With 1,300 miles still fenceless and open to Mexican defectors, estimates show the total cost of fencing the remaining border at over $22 billion, a figure which does not take into account land acquisition costs or fence maintenance. As more illegal immigrants enter the United States, the idea of a physical border is becoming less and less pragmatic during times of economic recovery, but what other options does the United States government have to stop illegal immigration? The increase in drone and UAV aircrafts by the U.S military in recent years sheds light on a new option to beef up border security. Currently the United States has roughly 680 drones, 172 of which are Predator drones, an unmanned aircraft which is used for air-to ground combat, surveillance and intelligence all over the world;  however, the weapons on the aircraft can be removed. Drone usage has been on the rise by the military as the United States gathers more information on potential national security threats, with the added benefit being that drones eliminate the loss of human life when gathering intelligence. A U.S. Air Force MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle.Photo Credit: U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Stanley Thompson Predator drones cost a little over $4 million per aircraft, but recent technology has drastically improved their ability to see a full picture of the area they are scanning. The development of the ARGUS sensor (Autonomous Real-Time Ground Ubiquitous Surveillance) by multinational defense company BAE Systems brings UAV surveillance to levels never seen before. The ARGUS sensor can be mounted on any Predator drone and is equipped with 368 cell phone cameras, enabling the sensor to mold together a 1.8 billion pixel video that spans fifteen square miles. With the highest quality video ever produced available to Predator drone operators in real time, the ARGUS sensor has the ability to pinpoint every moving human being in the fifteen square mile area with colored squares, zooming close enough to watch a solitary bird soar across the sky. Surveillance of the remaining open regions of the U.S-Mexico border could be conducted with the use of just under 100 Predator drones, each equipped with an ARGUS sensor. The cost of manufacturing the necessary drones hovers around $400 million, less than 2% of the lowest estimate cost of constructing fencing on the rest of the United States’ southern border. While the estimated total cost of manufacturing the Predator drones needed does not take into account the cost of the ARGUS sensors and drone operators, Predator drones clearly are winning the battle of the most cost-effective options to sure up America’s southern border and put a stop to illegal immigration.
